Ember is the game's premium currency which can be purchased for real money.
Obtaining
Ember can be purchased from the Nexus, which can be found on the right side of the Town screen.
Uses
Ember can currently be used to purchase Island skins and Global boosts (Temporary boosts which effect every online player).
